Alumni Relations Specialist

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Reports to: Director of Leadership Annual Giving, Development 

Location: Kansas City, MO 

Hybrid: 2 days in office, 3 days remote (technology provided) 

Status: Exempt, Full-time  

Salary: Annual salary based on experience

Operating hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CST 

 

Key Performance Indicators: 

    • Increase the percentage of alumni engaged by 10% year over year.
    • Create networks for alumni engagement to meet the organizational goal of 90% Scholar satisfaction.
    • Work with Scholar Advocates and Career Resource Managers to ensure a smooth transition from Active Scholars to Alumni.
    • Coordinate alumni activities and engagement platforms to assist in reaching Development goals. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Alumni Relations Specialist position will report to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving on the Development Team and will play a key role at Great Jobs KC. This role will be responsible for engaging and networking with alumni to assist with transitions, facilitate alumni donor relations, and support alumni development through relationship building. 

  

Primary responsibilities include:  

Alumni Engagement & Support (60%)  

    • Create an alumni engagement network and connect alumni with engagement opportunities through Great Jobs KC and community partners.  Help ensure a smooth transition from active scholar to alumni.  
    • Work with the development team to help increase the number of donors and total donations through alumni engagement.  

Alumni Event Coordination (25%)  

    • Work with Great Jobs KC staff to coordinate on-site event logistics whenever alumni are needed.  
    • Work with relevant Great Jobs KC staff to coordinate engagement campaigns.  
    • Lead in-person and virtual meetings when needed.  

Data Management & Reports (10%)  

    • Keep track of KC Scholars alumni through Salesforce and other relevant platforms.  
    • Routinely update alumni contact information.  
    • Provide alumni data to KC Scholars staff.   

Miscellaneous (5%)  

  • Other duties as assigned and team support.  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

 

Education:  

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field from an accredited institution required.

Work Experience:  

    • One to three years minimum of related work experience required.
    • Experience and knowledge of social media platforms and experience implementing social media campaigns.
    • Experience, knowledge, and proficiency with database management applications such as Salesforce, or similar software.

    • General understanding of college access, persistence, and completion issues – particularly for low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented students and returning adult learners.

Physical requirements: 

    • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.  
    • Ability to work in an office and remote environment. 
    • Ability to travel from and to work and occasionally to regional sites as the organization grows.  
    • Ability to interact with others via technology, face-to-face and collectively.
