A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

A person with a bald head and a goatee smiles while standing with arms crossed, wearing a black shirt and vest. Behind them, the stone wall and colorful artwork blend beautifully, much like the veteran job training programs in Kansas City that offer vibrant new beginnings.Every day, I am humbled by the dedication and passion of the Great Jobs KC team as we work toward helping 50,000 Kansas Citians on the pathway to better lives. While our daily efforts are rewarding, there’s something uniquely powerful about seeing our impact validated through an independent lens. This year, we had the privilege of having our program evaluated by Mathematica, a nationally recognized research team, and their findings reaffirm what we’ve believed all along: our work is making a measurable difference.

Here are some highlights from Mathematica’s evaluation:

  • Substantial Increases in Income: On average, our scholars experience a 91% increase in their annual income, with many earning a sustainable, household-supporting salary after completing the program.
  • Strong Community Demand and Growth: Enrollment in Great Jobs KC continues to expand at an incredible pace, with 3,000 new scholars currently participating each quarter—a testament to both the demand for our services and the value of our approach.
  • An Innovative Model: What sets us apart is our comprehensive and ongoing support for scholars, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

These findings are not just statistics; they are evidence of lives changed and futures transformed. They also remind us of the immense need that remains. Over 670,000 individuals in the Kansas City area still struggling to make ends meet. This reality fuels our determination to connect more individuals to life-changing opportunities.

To all our supporters, donors, scholars, employees, and partners—you are integral to this mission. Your contributions of time, talent, and resources make it possible for us to dream bigger, do more, and make Kansas City a place of opportunity for all.

Let’s carry this momentum into the months and years ahead. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more equitable community. Thank you for believing in our vision and for joining us in this important work.

HONORING OUR VETERANS

A man with a white beard stands with his arms crossed, wearing a neon safety vest, in front of a large vehicle, showcasing the skills acquired through veteran job training in Kansas City.Willis Reed graduated from the Great Jobs KC Training Program, earning his Certified Driver License (CDL) training certificate. Willis works at Freedom Transportation, INC., a local veteran-owned business based in Olathe, Kansas, where he can use his CDL certification daily. Freedom Transportation is an Amazon Freight partner company, and Willis has been employed there since March 2024. Reflecting on his experience so far, Willis has gained valuable driving experience under the owner’s guidance, which has allowed him to learn how to drive various styles of trucks and further his understanding of this career field. Willis reflects that the most rewarding attribute of this job is being able to operate his day-to-day routes on his own to ensure he is working safely and in a timely and efficient manner.

While working with Great Jobs KC, Willis found the resources available extremely beneficial. He reflects on the people who were part of his process and how they helped him navigate and complete his program. Willis has shared his experience with Great Jobs KC with a few veterans he knows personally, as he found his program to be an excellent resource to help veterans begin their next phase of life. Even though Willis’ program has ended, his story with Great Jobs KC has not, and he continues to be a face other veterans can relate to and see that our programs can also impact their lives.

SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS!

We are so proud to announce that Great Jobs KC was one of 13 organizations to receive a grant award of up to $500,000 through the Veteran and Spouse Transitional Assistance Grant Program. We’ll offer services to veterans and their spouses such as resume assistance, interview training, job training, employment placement services, employment education and training, and referrals for employment. Recently separated service members and their spouses may sign up for the services starting in early 2025. We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for allowing us to help bolster their efforts to secure great jobs for veterans!

Our community collaborations allow us to support our Scholars and help them succeed no matter what obstacles get in their way. We currently collaborate with 112 partners, but we always need more!

To get our Scholars through their programs, we rely on partnerships with our Postsecondary Network, Job Training Partners, and our Community Partners. Then, to find them the great job with benefits, we look to our collaborations with our Employer Partners.

We are always on the lookout for ways to help our Scholars succeed. There are thousands of organizations in Kansas City, and we know that many of these have programs and services that can be useful to college students or adults in training for a new career. If your organization offers services that can benefit our Scholars, or your organization could benefit from hiring our Scholars, please reach out. CLICK HERE for contact information to reach out.

This was an opportunity for Scholar Advocates and Career Resources Managers to meet the staff and instructors at the school, see the learning environment, and ask questions about the programs offered by the training partner. The bonus was meeting several of our Scholars! We also recently visited another training partner, KC Phlebotomy, and have visits to Metropolitan Community College, MEDS KC, and Me2You scheduled after the start of the new year. We can’t wait!

Spiral Health Systems, a committed and dedicated provider of In-Home care, specializing in delivering outstanding care to the Kansas City community, hosted a special event in recognition of National Caregivers Month. This Wellness Self-Care Event was designed to provide essential support and resources to caregivers and essential workers in our community.

The event aimed to bring much-needed attention to the challenges caregivers and essential workers face and offer them an opportunity to relax, recharge, and connect with others who share their experiences.

The program included wellness workshops, relaxation sessions, informational booths, interactive activities, and a panel discussion in which LaCherl Rainey, Great Jobs KC Career Resources Manager, participated. Tailored to promote caregiver self-care and positive mental health, the event was a platform for education and support but also a celebration of the invaluable contributions caregivers and essential workers make to our society.
